When Will I Know My Recruit's Platoon Number?

This is an important question because we can't transport a letter of the alphabet until we get the platoon number. The accost for each company is public knowledge, just mailing a letter without a platoon number causes big delays. The wrong platoon number causes even more delays. So here'south the Total scoop on this question.

Your recruit will fill out a form letter and manus-address it to you on the FIRST Sunday in boot camp. For example, if your recruit's first Sun in kick campsite is March 8, the letter will exist mailed the post-obit day, Monday, March 9. Families can expect to receive the form letter from their recruit by Th or Friday of that week. The amount of fourth dimension it takes the alphabetic character to accomplish you will, of course, vary based on locations and postal facilities. Information technology will arrive via standard Us Mail.

Now, some of you are going to go impatient and other groups will encourage yous to call your recruiter or the recruiting office to inquire for the platoon number. And you can do what you want to do, but I would discourage that. The Marine Corps uses proper channels for communication and respects the chain of control. Asking a recruiter to practice that for yous would be asking him to deviate from the standard operating procedure (SOP). The recruiter may exercise it for you because he wants to help out, or he may non. Either way, I'm going to discourage you lot from asking your recruiter for multiple reasons. It'southward disrespectful of the chain of command and Marine Corps SOP, it disrupts the normal flow of postal service, your recruit's platoon number could VERY likely change, and with the HUGE influx of mail to make new recruits, information technology makes information technology actually hard to sort the mail and then creates a filibuster for the entire company.

The other thing that volition happen is that people who have joined this group under some kind of alias name will send you a private message request y'all to requite them your recruit's full name and they will in return give y'all his platoon number. I tin can't fifty-fifty brainstorm to tell you how WRONG this is on so many levels, only they volition endeavour to get abroad with information technology. Please don't provide them with whatever information. And please study those people to usa and so we can terminate their membership in this grouping.

So be patient, and allow everything unfold as it should. Your recruit is doing what he or she should be doing, and we, equally a group, are trying to do the aforementioned. Write your letters, put them in envelopes, number each one and then your recruit opens them in order, and gear up them aside until you figure out the platoon number. That's the safest and well-nigh respectful style to get our messages to all of our recruits in reasonable order and in good fourth dimension.

God Bless and Semper Fi!
